2010 Asian Games: Adjudicator's Report
DanceSport took a decisive step forward on its Olympic pathway. For the first time it has been included in the programme of the bigger-than-ever Asian Games as a medal sport.
Guangzhou and its organising committee made every possible effort to convert the games into an unforgettable experience for every attendant, no matter whether athlete, official or spectator. The very opening ceremony – with thousands of protagonists in a specially
dedicated stadium on an artificial island – will remain unsurpassed for ages.
The organising committee of the Asian Dance Sport Federation ambitiously lead by IDSF Secretary General Shawn Tay did a fabulous job and secured the first appearance of DanceSport among all the high profile members of the Olympic family to be a great success.
All countries were represented by their best, no matter whether “amateur” or professional athletes. All couples fought for the same medals – a unique premiere in DanceSport.
The audience at the sold-out venue witnessed high quality dancing and 10 gold medals for China with great pleasure. The 10 competitions consisted of 4 single dance events per discipline (only Rumba and Viennese Waltz left out) and a „normal“ 5 dance event in
both Standard and Latin.
The panel of adjudicators had to practise hard to be familiar with the networking and computer idiosyncrasies of the „new adjudicating system“. The results show very small gaps between ranked couples which seem obviously very attractive and “logic” to the audience.
As IDSF President Mr. Carlos Freitag reported about the feedback he received from IOC and OCA officials DanceSport delivered a very professional appearance and was rated highly attractive by both audience and TV stations.
